ตีพิมพ์ครั้งแรกในวารสาร The Absolute Sound & Stage

clip_image002Native Instruments (NI) จากมุมมองของผู้เขียน เป็นบริษัทที่มีคุณูปการอย่างยิ่งยวดในวงการ Computer Music ตั้งแต่เรื่องของแนวคิดที่ชัดเจนในการก่อตั้ง เป็นที่มาของชื่อ Native Instruments ซึ่งแปลว่า “การนำคอมพิวเตอร์มาใช้งานเป็นเครื่องดนตรี โดยไม่ต้องพึ่งพาแรงประมวลผลจากอุปกรณ์อื่น ๆ” ท่านผู้อ่านลองมองย้อนกลับไปสิบกว่าปีก่อนตอนที่ NI เริ่มก่อตั้งนะครับ ว่าคอมพิวเตอร์ตามบ้านทั่วไปนั้น มี CPU แรงระดับไหน และมันทำอะไรได้บ้าง เพราะก่อนหน้านั้นการนำแนวคิดของเครื่องดนตรี มาใส่ไว้ในคอมพิวเตอร์เพื่อทำการสร้างเสียงในแบบเรียลไทม์นั้น จำเป็นต้องใช้ Audio Processor ที่ออกแบบมาเพื่อเรนเดอร์เสียงโดยเฉพาะ ซึ่งผู้ที่จะมีสิ่งเหล่านี้ใช้ต้องเป็น Facility ขนาดใหญ่ระดับเดียวกับ Skywalker Sound System หรือสถาบันวิจัย สถาบันการศึกษาชั้นนำเท่านั้นที่ได้มีโอกาสใช้กัน

เครื่องดนตรีหน้าตาเหมือน Haken Continuum แต่วิธีการเล่นคล้าย Theremin ตัวนี้ เป็นฝีมือของ Omer Yosha นักศึกษาด้าน Interface Design ที่เยอรมัน จุดต่างจาก Theremin อย่างชัดเจนคือการทีมันไม่มีเสียงในตัวเอง หากแต่ส่งข้อมูล MIDI ซึ่งเป็นข้อมูลที่ไม่ต่อเนื่อง การเล่นเสียงจึงเหมือนการกดคีย์บอร์ด ขณะที่ Theremin มีเสียงต่อเนื่องในตัวเอง
