ประวัติศาสตร์โลกเกือบได้จารึกชื่อของนายเอลลิสช่า เกรย์ (Elisha Grey 1835-1901) ไว้ในฐานะผู้ประดิษฐ์โทรศัพท์คนแรกของโลกแล้วครับ หากว่าอเล็กซานเดอร์ เกรแฮม เบลล์ไม่ได้ไปถึงสำนักงานจดสิทธิบัตรก่อนเกรย์เพียงชั่วโมงเดียว (บางแห่งอ้างว่า 2) แต่ประวัติศาสตร์ทางนวัตกรรมดนตรีจะต้องจารึกชื่อของเขาไว้ในฐานะผู้ประดิษฐ์เครื่องดนตรีอิเล็กโทรนิกส์คนแรกโดยบังเอิญ!

ผมกับเพื่อนในทีมพัฒนาเกม PicSoft กำลังพัฒนาชุดซอฟต์แวร์ที่จับการเคลื่อนไหวของมนุษย์ (Motion Tracking) แล้วนำ Information ที่ได้ มาควบคุมเสียงผ่านการมอดดูเลทพารามิเตอร์ของซินธ์ หรือแม้แต่ใช้ควบคุมระดับ Pitch ของแหล่งกำเนิดเสียงโดยตรง อย่างการจำลองเครื่องดนตรี Theremin (ทำเป็นปริญญานิพนธ์ในระดับปริญญาโท) แต่ก็คงช้าไปเสียแล้วล่ะครับ เพราะซอฟต์แวร์ลักษณะดังกล่าวนี้ มีอยู่ใน Hipno เรียบร้อยโรงเรียน Cycling’74

Max/MSP จะเปิดสอนที่ ม.พายัพ าควิชาดุริยศิลป์ ในาคการศึกษาที่จะถึงนี้ในส่วนของวิชา Composition ใครสนใจมาสมัครเป็นนักศึกษาที่นี่ได้เลย (ณ ขณะนี้มีที่เดียวในประเทศไทยเน้อเจ้า) และควรเรียนควบคู่กับ วิชา Electronic Music History ด้วยซึ่งจะเปิดพร้อมกัน ส่วนป.โท มีวิชา Advance Electroacoustic Music ให้เรียนครับ วิชานี้อิงหนังสือของ Trevor Wishart ในการสอน

ผูู้้เขียนได้ยินกิตติศัพท์ของ TimewARP 2600 จาก Way Out Ware มาได้ระยะหนึ่งแล้วล่ะครับ เพียงแต่ยังไม่ได้มีโอกาสลองเนื่องจากมันมีในระบบ RTAS เท่านั้น ใครหลายคนที่ได้ลองก่อนต่างก็ออกความเห็นเป็นเสียงเดียวกันว่าเหมือนจริง กว่า เมื่อนำไปเทียบกับซอฟต์แวร์จำลอง ARP 2600 ของอีกค่ายหนึ่ง ยิ่งได้ทราบว่า Alan R. Pearlman ผู้สร้าง ARP 2600 ให้การรับรองด้วยตัวเอง ก็เลยยิ่งอยากรู้จักให้มากขึ้น และในที่สุดมันก็ออกมาในรูปแบบ VST และ AU เรียบร้อยครับ (ยังมีให้ใช้แบบ Standalone ด้วย)
